Marshall Thrashes Stony Brook in Dominant 45-3 Victory

Thundering Herd Overwhelm Seawolves with Offensive Onslaught

Huntington, W.Va. – Marshall University's football team delivered a resounding performance on Thursday night, crushing Stony Brook University 45-3 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The Thundering Herd's offense exploded in the first quarter, racking up 21 unanswered points. Running back Khalan Laborn led the charge with a 10-yard touchdown run, followed by quarterback Henry Colombi connecting with wide receiver Corey Gammage for a 35-yard score.

Defense Stifles Stony Brook's Offense

Marshall's defense proved equally dominant, holding Stony Brook to a mere three points and 142 total yards. Linebacker Darius Hodge led the way with 10 tackles, while defensive end Ethan Westbrooks recorded two sacks.

Special Teams Captures Momentum

The Thundering Herd's special teams unit also contributed to the victory. Punter Ethan Mortensen averaged 44.8 yards per punt, pinning Stony Brook deep in its own territory.

In the second quarter, wide receiver Jaylon Rembert returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown, adding to Marshall's lead.

Thundering Herd Dominates Second Half

Marshall continued to dominate in the second half, scoring another 21 unanswered points. Laborn added a second touchdown run, while Colombi found Rembert for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

In the fourth quarter, kicker Alex Thomson put the finishing touches on the victory with a 32-yard field goal.

Looking Ahead

Marshall (1-0) will next face the University of North Carolina on September 9 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Stony Brook (0-1) will host the University of Maine on September 2.
