Kamala Harris: Trailblazing Vice President and Democratic Presidential Nominee

Early Life and Career

Kamala Devi Harris was born in Oakland, California on October 20, 1964. She earned a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1989.

Harris began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California. In 2003, she was elected District Attorney of San Francisco, becoming the first woman and first Black person to hold the position.

Statewide Offices

In 2010, Harris was elected California Attorney General, becoming the first African American and first woman to hold the position.

As Attorney General, Harris focused on criminal justice reform, environmental protection, and consumer protection.

She was re-elected in 2014.

Vice Presidency

In 2020, Harris was elected Vice President of the United States, becoming the first woman and first African American to hold the position.

As Vice President, Harris has focused on addressing income inequality, climate change, and voter suppression.

2024 Presidential Nomination

In 2023, Harris announced her candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024.

Her platform includes plans to expand access to healthcare, address climate change, and promote economic equality.
