Consumer Price Index Remains Stable in October

Unchanged from September, but Costs Still Higher Than a Year Ago

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for All Urban Consumers remained unchanged in October on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a 0.4% increase in September.

Despite the lack of change in October, the CPI is still 7.7% higher than it was a year ago, indicating that inflation remains a concern for consumers.

The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2% in October after rising 0.3% in September. This suggests that inflation is becoming more broad-based, as prices for a wider range of goods and services are increasing.

Among the indexes that increased in October were those for:

  • Shelter (0.6%)
  • Transportation (0.4%)
  • Medical care (0.3%)
  • Apparel (0.2%)
